The Death of Windfriend (Garou)

Post by Hanan Nagi »

<GT> "Cherry the Shadowfriend, you are called to the challenge mound to bear judgment for the death of Windfriend." The howl does not waver.

<GT> "Philodox of the Forgotten Spring, you are called to the challenge mound to deliver the decided judgment."

<GT> "Sentinels, under Owl, you are requested to bear witness to the decided judgment."

<GT> "It is time to lay the matter firmly to rest, for closure."
Hanan Nagi wrote:The Strider considers each individual as they arrive, her gaze lingering on Lavinia because she is unfamiliar, and once she has noted that those necessary are present, she brings her focus to rest upon Shadowfriend.

When she speaks, it is with a soft tone and a measured pace, but there is authority that underlies the words, and her stance does not waver. "Shadowfriend, Ragabash of the Uktena, last summer you fell to frenzy outside of your pack's home here on the caern, and in your frenzy you slayed your packmate, Nadie Windfriend, Theurge of the Wendigo."

"The loss of any Garou of the Nation is a grievous one, especially to lose one to the throes of frenzy. Then-Eldest Philodox Gabriel Bears-the-Weight Valois had taken it upon himself to deliberate upon the circumstances of this death to determine an appropriate punishment for the taking of a Garou life." She lifts her chin subtly. "However, he departed without informing any of the other Half Moons of any decisions he had made."

"As such, we gathered ourselves together to discuss this matter and the time that has passed."

She turns whatever she holds in her hands, a calm gesture that seems to carry a purpose, even though what she holds cannot be seen. "Unanimously, we agree that the taking of a Garou life in a fit of frenzy is both unwise and dishonorable, and to let it pass unremarked would be a disservice to the slain, to the guilty, and to the caern- as a place so full of Rage as this one, we must take care to monitor ourselves and our self-control, for there are too many external threats to harm each other over slights and wrongs and internal matters."

"You demonstrated a lack of self-control; when you were hurt by your packmate's words, you gave in to your Rage instead of bringing the matter to the challenge mound to be settled in the Garou way, and without the constraints of a challenge, you ended her life." Despite this, Hanan's tone is not harsh.

"But we have seen remorse, and we have seen the hurt that has been done to your pack," she continues in a slightly softer tone. "And in our former Elder's negligence, time has passed. We do not wish to be harsh in the reopening of this wound, but it still must be opened and lanced so that it may heal properly and without shame."

Finally, she opens her fingers to show a mostly-round stone with a smooth surface. "We have decided that the failing in this instance had been that of your self-control. While you succumbed to frenzy and showed a lack of wisdom and a lack of honor in doing so, you can learn better self-control, and so for punishment for your failing, we decided upon the Stone of Scorn."

"Today and into tonight, your failings will be marked upon this stone and pointed out to you. Your control will be tested, and the Honor and Wisdom you had shown yourself to lack will be stripped from you. After tonight, however, it will end and you can begin the journey to proving yourself to be wiser and more honorable than you had been at the death of your packmate." She pauses to allow this to sink in.
Shadowfriend wrote:Shadowfriend stared at the Strider for a long minute as she listened, but she sat down and curled her tail around her paws. Her ears shifted, but she didn't look at her pack and instead quietly took in the gathered Half Moons.

Eventually, she lifted her ears and kept her head up, though her tail remained wrapped around her paws in self-comfort. She tipped her head in a show of submission to the Eldest Philodox. <GT> "This one submit to judgment of Judges. Will seek to prove self-control, honor, and wisdom."

<GT> "This one thanks Judges for their judgment. Wants to be better Garou, wants to atone for loss of Nadie-Nadie. Am ready for punishment chosen."

(Summarized Conclusion: Shadowfriend showed a lack of self-control, Honor, and Wisdom in succumbing to her frenzy and killing her packmate for personal slights. For this, she has been subjected to the Stone of Scorn.)
